Why BOHP?

O Education is one of the most pressing social needs in Turkey.

O In Turkey there is 1 library per 50,000 people, in Germany 1 library per 7,000 people.

O 21% of children in Turkey are illiterate and 29.7% of female children are not in school.

O 1 in 5 women in Turkey are illiterate.

O In England (pop 65mil) 110,965 books were published in 1999.

O In Turkey (pop 76mil) 2,920 books were published in 1999.

O In England, there were 21,849 Libraries (1999), in Turkey 1,292 (1999).

O According to The World Bank Report (Turkey: Expanding Opportunities for the Next Generations - February 2010), among young people between the ages 7 and 15, only 68% of young girls have the opportunity to go to school, whereas the same ratio rises to 90% for boys of the same age group.

O Insufficient funds and resources available at schools are a major contributor to the non-enrollment and drop-out problem.
 

How can YOU help?

The BOHP Van Earthquake Relief Fund

We were all shaken with the news of the devastating 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Turkey, near the city of Van, on October 23rd. According to government sources, the current death toll is 471 and rising, with over 1500 injured and a reported 970 collapsed buildings.

As the BOHP family, we'd like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the injured and their loved ones as the relief efforts continue. Throughout the years, we have brought joy to our kids in Turkey with your support. Now is the time to reach out to them and their families to help them through this terrible ordeal.
